[11/13/02] Dirty Money

With Ian keeping up his insanity act up, even if it’s somewhat subdued, it's fairly obvious that Joko and Dersh are paying less attention to him than they are to his partners. For Ian, it's a welcome advantage because he's able to observe the two small-time gangsters with greater freedom than Dex or Jarren and without arousing their suspicion. All he has to do is mumble a little and let his eyes dart away from them and around the room on occasion. It’s fairly obvious to him that they’ve dismissed his presence as a minimal threat. The same can’t be said for Jarren, however.

Joko glares at Jarren. "If you'd extend me the courtesy of keeping your hands where I can see them…"

Jarren says, "Sorry, friend" and lets his hands drop to his side, allowing Joko to see that he is not holding anything. Behind and to the side of the Omwati, Dersh relaxes noticibly and lets his own hand fall away from his coat – no doubt where there’s a blaster of his own.

Letting his eyes train back to the silly-looking, green-haired human in front of him, Joko waits for Dex to voice the deal that he already knows. With his senses aroused and his mind heightened by the spice, he’s itching to enact his plan and readies his signal to Dersh. The human surprises him, however.

"No doubt your associates have shown you what we have to offer. We have about 2000 of them, and we are willing to part with them for a good price. We can let you have them all for 500 credits."

When Dex states his price for the load of holos, Ian picks up a subtle change in Joko, and if he’s not mistaken, a covert signal to the big man. It’s hard to read through the alien’s poker face, but it definitely registered as surprise, maybe shock. It also seems as though whatever the Rodian had in mind was called off at the last second. Ian doesn’t know what might have happened, but certainly it wouldn’t have been good – probably some kind of doublecross. Joko appeared to be taken by surprise by Dex’s opening offer, pleasantly by the smug look on his green face. Dex and Jarren don’t appear to have noticed either Joko’s look or the signal.

“500 you say? Hmmm. I can go 300,” thoughtfully states the Rodian after a few moments of mulling the offer over.

Dex acts slightly hurt by the Rodian’s counter-offer – all part of the game of course. “300? You know it’s a bargain at 500. 450.”

“400. That’s all I can do,” Joko replies curtly.

Dex nods, indicating that they have a deal. Reading the expression on the Rodian’s face is proving impossible, but he can’t help thinking that the negotiations went quite well. A little too well perhaps? Probably not. More likely, Joko got a better deal than he was anticipating and is laughing it up inside thinking he just scammed a couple bumpkins.

Dex suggests that Joko send his people over to Coozers tomorrow night, indicating that this will give the party enough time to transport the holos there. Joko's people should bring the money. Once the party has the money, the party will unlock the cargo bay so Joko's people can unload them.

After listening to Dex's plan, Joko agrees and settles back into his chair, at ease.

Dex takes the opportunity to speak up about things other than holos. “Well, now that business is concluded, I was hoping that you might know where could purchase some, uh, female companionship. Human preferrably.” Turning to the others, Dex thumbs in their direction and adds, “They might want some too.”

Listening to the Human, Dex, Joko gets an insidious smile on his face. “Sure. I know where you could get some companionship.” Looking at the big man, he says, “Dersh,” and signals with his head.

Dersh cracks the door, gives a low whistle, and sticks out three sausage fingers to some unseen person in the cantina before closing it again. Jarren is starting to feel some of that old soldier’s anxiety again, but it’s muted when the door opens several seconds later to let in two giggling Humans and a Rodian girl.

“Jonna, Dre’m, Treese, “ he names them off respectively. “These gentlemen… are new clients, show them out please.” Looking back to Dex, he adds quietly with a private smile, “On the house.”

Ian smiles in a crazy manner.

Jarren notes that Treese looks none too happy. Certainly, he and the others can understand why. This was Cal’s “angel” after all. The very angel he hired the three of them to help him win back by terminating Joko in the first place. It makes one wonder if Coozer was right, if Treese wasn’t setting Cal up for the big take all along. Looking between his two partners, it’s obvious they are drawing similar conclusions (clear enough to Jarren even through Ian’s crazy act).

Dex was planning on coaxing more information out of Joko, but he’s not going to push it, all things considered, so he follows the local talent through the door. Besides, these girls don't look all that "experienced" to Dex's eye. No doubt, they don't get much call out here in the middle of nowhere. It could be a lot of fun.

As the three follow the women into the cantina proper, Jarren is last. Dersh grabs him none-to-gently by the arm as he’s passing by. “You rough them up, you answer to me. Got it?” He then hurries the Omwati on his with a pointed shove.

[OOC: I assume you want to go with the girls. If not, well, do whatever you wish. If you do go with them, you have your fun during the evening (although you can’t buy drinks or anything because you’re all broke), going over to one of the girl’s residence/office for some revelry. Forgive me for not going into the details! At the end of the evening, you make your way back to the ship.

Amy, feel free to let me know what Neera’s up to if it applies anywhere.]
