Dex:
Before following the ham-handed oaf into the back room, Dex does his best to bury his nerves under the air of confidence and composure that usually comes so naturally to him. He has dealt with people like this many times before. Certainly, Joko is no different from the fences he is used to dealing with; low level thugs and grease balls that only pony up what they promise if they believe that they have no other option. This is not what makes him nervous. What makes him nervous is the fact that he is wearing a poncho made of camouflage netting, which does not present the image that is typically required to inspire low-life thugs like Joko to honor their deals. Though the retarded farmer image was really their only option in this circumstance, now that he is walking in to meet Joko, he feels…well…like a retarded farmer. Dex is finding this image a handicap in summoning the confidence that he generally takes for granted.
Doing his best to hide his sheepishness, Dex walks into the backroom, and immediately recognizes the faint scent of glitterstim spice. While he is glad that his adversary would be so quick to reveal such a useful weakness, he also know that drug addict low-life thugs are generally the most dangerous low life thugs, not to mention the least credible of all criminals. He reminds himself to tread carefully.
Joko's greeting gives Dex the impression that he is not that type to appreciate being glad handed. Dex decides to be brief: all business.
Hopefully, Joko will appreciate this, and be more open to conversation once business is done.
"No doubt your associates have shown you what we have to offer. We have about 2000 of them, and we are willing to part with them for a good price. We can let you have them all for 500 credits."
Dex waits for his response. Dex assumes that Joko will not give him 500 credits simply because that is the opening offer, even though it is definitely a good deal at that price. While loathe to get the short end of a deal, given the circumstances, Dex believes it is best to just unload the porn for what ever they can get. If they try to get too much money, this spice head may decide to just take them for free. In any case, Dex is anxious to get money in his pocket (and buy a decent set of clothes!). He is begrudgingly willing to go as low as 300 credits, though he is really hoping for 450.
Once the price is worked out, Dex will negotiate delivery. Dex suggests that Joko send his people over to Coozers tomorrow night, indicating that this will give the party enough time to transport the holos there. Joko's people should bring the money. Once the party has the money, the party will unlock cargo bay so Joko's people can unload the holos.
Assuming the deal goes through with out any animosity, Dex will do his best to get Joko talking about anything. First, Dex will ask if Joko knows about the availability of hookers. Specifically, human hookers, preferably cheap, but not skanky. (Of course Dex knows that there is no such thing as a cheap yet unksanky hooker, but it is reasonable that a retarded farmer may be deluded with such fantasies.) Dex will also see if there is any possibility of barter, rather than exchange of credits, for these services. Of course, he inquires about hookers for his companions, as well, regardless of whether they may want them or not.
Should the opportunity present itself, Dex will inquire about their other financial interests, under the premise that they may happen across something that Joko may be interested in. Dex will try to present the party as a group of hillbillies that are trying to make their way into a life of crime.
Also, if possible, Dex will try to find out how Joko got hooked up with Gardulla.
Dex will essentially try to get Joko talking. Anything that Joko seems willing to talk about, Dex will show great interest in. Should Joko show a willingness to talk, Dex will try to steer the conversation into a direction that will lead to the information he wants: What other criminal enterprises is he into, where does he get his drugs, what is he doing that Gardulla may not know about, and of course, any other items of information that may be useful in setting him up. Dex will not push for this information, and will drop any line of questions that seems to offend him
Ian:
Once Ian crosses into Joko's den, Ian decided to cut the insane-man routine to the lowest degree possible while the deal over the halos is working itself out. Originally, Ian considered being as abnoxious as possible to make the situation intolerable for Joko so he would agree to higher price for the sake of getting us out--yet, Ian realizes that being too cute has unforeseen consequences.
However, Ian also has is mind-set that the deal will NOT go through and that Joko will try to take our entire party out and keep the halos and ship for himself. In other words, Ian is on high alert for the slightest thing to suggest a show-down. After being held captive and sold into slavery, Ian does not plan to repeat being caught off guard. Besides, people like Joko don't get to be Joko by being honorable.
The problem for Ian is that he has to keep acting a little off so Joko's henchmen or Joko himself does not notice Ian's intent gaze absorbing in all the little details.
After entering the room, Ian is most concerned about having his back turned to anyone other than their own party. If a henchman is standing behind them, Ian will walk to one side of the room a little off to the side of Dex or Jarren so he can keep his eyes on the back of the room. If absolutely necessary, Ian will turn his back on Joko and face the back by talking nonesence to the rear henchman so Ian can look at him directly. [OOC: Greg, you should presume that Ian will do about anything the situation warrents to keep his eyes on the back of the room.]
Once the group leaves the deal, Ian will quietly suggest that the group stagger out a bit as the cross back to the ship and they are in effect in a patrol formation to limit area-effect weapons. As well, they will be more alert to being followed from behind or tagged from the side alleys. Once back at the ship, Ian will ensure that one of them keep guard outside the ship and possibly figure a way to convert ears into a guard-rat.
Dex:
Jarren also takes a step to the side away from his partners and turns
slightly so that he can see both Joko and the thug at the same time. In
fact if he can Jarren will lean against the wall. His hands are under his
poncho one is resting on the butt of his gun ready to be drawn if needed.
Jarren is trying for a relaxed neutral stance waiting for the smooth talker
Dex to seal the deal.
