Dex:
Dex, wondering at how he succeeded at so horrible a bluff, goes back into the ship to explain to Jarren (and Ian if he is awake) that while the stormtroopers have left and not quarantined their cargo, that they will be back tomorrow to check their merchant license, and if the party does not have it, they will impound the cargo.
Dex suggests that they go ahead and try to sell the casino equipment to the Bothan's original buyer, and see if he will purchase the license they need as he had agreed to do for the Bothans. Dex's logic is that this way they do not need to find a buyer if they go with the Bothan's buyer, plus it might get them in good with a local crime lord, which never hurts. While a better price might be had if they shopped the deal around, this would at least give them some desperately needed cash quickly with out any real effort. The only other option really is to try to unload enough of the porn to cover the license, and then try to get a better price from another buyer. Being that Dex does not trust the salesmanship of his fellows, he assumes that much of this work will fall on his shoulders, and he thinks it is more work than it is worth.
Assuming the rest of the group agrees to this line of action Dex will begin trying to contact the Bothan's buyer, explaining to the person on the other end of the line that their has been a change in vendors, but the deal will still be honored, provided no questions are asked. Of course, he is using all the charm the radio will transmit.
Dex is trying at every opportunity to gauge Jarren's attitude toward the news he received last night about the contract with Cal. When he finds the opportunity to speak with Jarren out of earshot from Ian, he will ask, "I think we need to discuss how we will go about getting the ship repaired. You know about the bargain that forced upon us. What do you think we should do?" He is using all his skills to read Jarren while he answers.
He is also curious to see if Ian has been blasted into reality, and if so, what his position on the assassination is now that he is in his right mind. He does not do anything overt to discover any answers, however, and just waits to see if any present themselves.
Dex will also look for the opportunity to speak with Coozer alone, though not necessarily in secret. Dex will not do this if he feels that it might be viewed with suspicion, or if the opportunity does not arise. Assuming this is possible, Dex will ask Coozer for any and all information he can give about Joko. Dex will not mind either of the others being present provided he gets a good impression beforehand that they are committed to following through with their agreement with Cal.
If he is not able to talk to Coozer about Joko, he will still seek to talk to Coozer to try and get to know him a little to create a friendly relationship with him. Once Dex feels that he has schmoozed Coozer sufficiently, he will inform Coozer that the party is a little short of cash, and see if Coozer might want to trade some credits for a pornographic holo. He will also ask Coozer if he has had the chance to look over our ship and see if he has any estimate on how long the repairs will take.
Jarren:
Jarren is happy to hear that the stormtroopers are gone and agrees to the
plan of selling the cargo to the original buyer. He then tells Dex " I
think that it is time for some pest control." With that Jarren runs to the
outside hatch and makes sure that it is closed and then walks back to the
cargo hold. As he walks back he keeps trying to talk himself into just
killing the stupid little rat but knows deep down that, that would be bad.
I'll just have to be happy stunning the thing and then selling it! Jarren
tells himself. Once back in the cargo hold Jarren asks Dex if Ears has come
out of it's hole yet. If Ears is still hiding there then Jarren will draw
both blaster and shoot the stupid rat.
[OOC the blasters are set to stun]
Once that is done Jarren pick up Ears and say "Well I'm of to sell this
thing" and head off to find a shop that might buy it.
[OOC I'm not sure what I'll do if Dex or Ian tells me not to sell the
thing. I guess that it depends on what they say. Regardless I will still
shoot the sucker just for causing all of the problems.]
On my way out I say to Dex " We really need to get some clothes and stuff.
Any ideas on how we can get some quick cash to hold us over until we can
sell the cargo?" Looking over in Ian's direction I continue" I sure hope
that Ian wakes up in his right state of mind. I don't think I can continue
working with a crazy man. It's just too much of a liability."
Dex Again:
Dex has absolutely no problem with selling Ears.
In response to Jarren's question about raising money, Dex will reply, "Well, we can get 50 - 60 credits per holo. I was thinking Coozer might be interested in one. I sold one to Cal for 50, but I only have 20 left over. If we sell a couple of holos, that should atleast cover some basic clothes and a couple of meals."
As Jarren leaves, Dex enjoys a quiet chuckle as he envisions the charmless Omwati going store to store trying to sell an even charmless rat beast. He almost wants to tag along to see it, but he realizes that this will give him the perfect oportunity to speak to Coozer alone.
Ian:
After feeling around the scorch mark, Ian pulls his hand back and looks at
it. "Son of a bitch," he mutters to himself, "They shot me." Ian then
rolls onto his stomach to relieve the pressure from his back and to take a
little time to clear the cobwebs from his throbbing skull. After hearing
the exchange of comments from outside the ship, Ian starts to remember where
he is as he begins to come out of a really bad dream.
Not sure what his status is with the two ex-slaves, Ian begins to work
through the memories of the last week and tries to sort out what the heck is
going on. Also on his mind is whether or not they plan to finish him off
completely or if they plan on selling him back to some slave merchant or
possibly even turn him over to the local Imperial authorities for a reward.
After a few momments of previously lacking rational thought, Ian realizes
that the odds are they intend him no immediate harm. He deduces that they
either would have restrained him or simply shot his ass dead in the ally.
In this little town on Tattoine he doubts the deceased corpse of a stranger
would have brought about much of an investigation. Then again, half the
town has probably seen them together so maybe they decided not to risk
drawing attention to themselves. Bue if they planned to later dispose of
him away from the city out of precaution, they probably would have already
killed him and hide his body somewhere in the hull of the ship or they again
would have restrained him. "No, I suppose they intend to let me live at
least long enough to figure out if I'm going to pose them any immediate
threat," Ian concludes. "But, I need to keep my guard up until I can begin
to trust these two characters. The fact that they were slaves also tends
to suggest they are equally unsavory characters with some history that
should not be ignored. Besides, the green-striped human has a slick toung
and the other knucklehead is just plain mean," continues Ian's thoughts.
With his eyes still closed, Ian begins to think his way around who is most
likely to have shot him. More importantly, Ian begins to question how he
really feels about being shot by his situational partners. It seems obvious
to Ian that the Omwati was the one who shot him. The man known to Ian as
Dex seems too slick to be much of a weapons expert. Not that he
underestimates the other human--after all, Ian is sure Dex wouldn't think
twice about shooting someone if it meant self-preservation. But, the Omwati
comes across very militant and one who Ian immediately recognizes as having
extensive combat training…or actual combat. There is just something about
the way he carries himself that makes Ian very, very uncomfortable. There
are two types of experienced killers and each has a persona that Ian has
become adept at recognizing: professional ex-military and professional
criminals. Many in this region of the Empire are both. Ian is sure that he
recognizes which category Jarren and Dex fall into.
Next, Ian realizes that he is not mad about being shot. In fact, he feels
somewhat lucky to still be alive. Ian is fairly certain he would have
simply killed someone who was insane and posed such liabilites…or maybe he
would have simply left him behind. Regardless, being stunned by blaster
solved their problem with the least amount of force and also brought him
back to reality. "I will miss though the euphoria of being a God," chuckles
Ian. He further feels exceptionally lucky to not be a slave anymore. Wow!
The sudden thought of what could have been but for the actions of his two
companions actually makes Ian somewhat thankful for their actions. But not
enough to be loyal to them or trust them. That comes another day.
As Jarren enters the ship after securing the outside hatch, he notices that
he does look really pissed off. When he pulls out both blasters, Ian
immediately sits up and begins to worry that maybe his estimation of the
situation was completely off base and that the Omwati intends to do him in.
Yet, at the momment Ian decides to go down fighting instead being a sheep he
sighs with relief as Jarren starts to blast at the hull.
Once Jarren looks at Ian with scorn and mentions Ian's questionable sanity
with a not-so-thinnly veiled threat, Ian cooly responds "No Omwati, I am
somewhat back in reality thanks to you shooting me in the back. I should be
fully recouped once this massive headache goes away and my back muscles quit
spasming." If there was any doubt who pulled the trigger, it is now
completely gone. Jarren is carrying two blasters and one obviously belonged
to Ian.
Ian eyes the limp monkey-lizard and a pain of sadness swells within him.
Normally, Ian would not associate himself with any pet but given the unique
bond between them over the last day, Ian would rather keep the animal. Who
knows? Having anything loyal around at this time in his life would be a
huge comfort. But Ian also realizes that the Omwati crossed a line by
blasting the poor creature and co-existance is simply not likely at this
point. As much as he wants Ears around, he is not sure the long term
consequences are positive. Ian looks again at the Omwati in the eyes and
asks "Is Ears dead?" Even a couple of blaster shots on stun would likely
kill the creature Ian knows since the stun settings are intended for
humanoid creatures and not small animals.
[OOC if Ears is dead, Ian will use the claws to create some sort of necklace
charm for good luck. If the creature is not dead and is likely to recover
then he will not object to Jarren selling the creature. But if Ears is
seriously wounded then Ian will ask for his blaster back so he can
mercy-kill it himself.]
Once Ian gets the answer from Jarren, Ian responds as appropriate. "Jarren,
since I am back to reality now I would appreciate it if you gave me back my
blaster. I do not intend to walk around this town or remain in the ship
unarmed. Either give it back to me or I am taking some of these cards to
sell to purchase a replacement. It your choice on how we spend the
earnings. Personally, I really want out of these clothes because I look
like a complete idiot. Also, before we go anywhere I think we need to
seriously discuss how we are paying for the repair of this ship."
Jarren Again:
Jarren regains his control and puts both blasters away with out shooting
the rat. "It's only a dumb animal anyway he thinks to himself" Jarren then
says to Ian "your welcome, any time I can be of service" in responds to Ian
thanking him for shooting him in the back. In reply to the no doubt who
pulled the trigger comment I say that " There never was any real doubt, I
just hope that if I was going around thinking that I was God and causing
problems That you would have the guts to try and restrain me in like
manner. Oh and Ian Please keep your girl friend under control. Next time I
just might really shoot it." Jarren has know real idea if he would really
shoot the thing or not at this point. Jarren then shakes his head to Ian
request about giving him the weapon back stating "You'll forgive me if I
don't readily compile, but I would like to make sure that you still don't
think that you are a God. Lets just take things one-step at a time, shall
we. As soon as we sell some of these illegal videos, we'll buy you a gun
and get us all equipped as best we can. But first we really should talk
about the trouble that you got us in to Ian. What we are going to do about
the bargain that you made with Cal when you thought that you were a god."
