Dex:
After seeing that the source of the blaster is a disgruntled garbage worker, I think to myself that this is not as bad as I had envisioned. Now the question is, do I want to put my life in Ian's hands just yet. I don't even know that he can shoot sober! Well, form the way that guy shoots down there, there seems to be little risk. And he looks like a sucker.
I move closer to Ian and whisper "How many guys do you see in the prairie down there?" I pause for an answere, but I will reply to the effect "I am going to try talk to them/him. Can you cover me?"
Assuming he can (or that he will try), I describe to him my plan, which is to sneak my way closer to a position so if he shoots at me, I will have some cover. We should find a spot for Ian so he will be hidden, be able to see me and have a clear shot at the guy. I explain that he should keep his presence a secret until it is either safe for us or until he needs to fire. I will try to get the guys attention, and using my incredible charm, see if I can get some useful information out of him.
I make another spot check to see if there are any others about. If there are others about, or if Ian does not like my plan, or offers a better one, then I will not do any of this!
Once in position, I hollar out to the guy in Basic, "Ahoy there, good lad, I wonder if I might beg of you some assistence?" I am ready to duck, as it seems he possible he will try his lacking quickdraw skills on me.
I will claim to be a trader whose ship has suffered some problems, and that I am need of some assistence. I am seeking parts for my ship, and a place to make the repairs. If he asks, I will describe the actual problems we have with the ship, but I will claim the damage is the result a navagational computer error, and an unskilled pilot. (It's so hard to find good help these days.) I will try to find out what this settlement is, and what services might be aquired there, and from who. I will also try to get a general impression of the settlement from him (Are people distrustful of strangers, prone to violence, etc.) I will also feel the guy out to see if he might want to purchase some smut holocards; if he knows someone who may be in the market for a crate full of smut holocards; and most importantly, can I con him out of his money and that blaster (ie, is he stupid, or come off as vulnerable in any particular way, etc.)
Jarren:
After making his repairs to the life support Jarren looks up at the
accursed twin suns and mutters to him self how muck he hates this sand pit
of a planet. Looking at the sensor array and then back at the suns it only
takes him a second to decided that he would let the droid work on the
sensor array after he finishes patching the turret. Once inside the ship
with the hatch closed and locked Jarren leans against wall lets the
coolness of the interior of the ship wash over him. Very glad with the
decision to finish up with the repairs on the inside of the ship and let
the droid finish up on the outside repairs. Jarren first stop is the
cockpit to listen in on and imperial chatter on the radio and grab another
water pouch. Picking up the communicator Jarren contacts Dex and informs
him on the what has been fixed and ETA for when all of the doable repairs
will be done, and the ship will be flyable.
Ian:
In half respsone to Dex's question and half out of
pure incredulous awe at the person's horrible firing,
Ian exclaims not too quietly, "That fringe homesteader
is God-awful with a blaster!" Ian then looks in Dex's
direction and asks rhetorically over Dex's banter
"This guy really needs help, don't you think?"
As Dex continues to scheme and plan an intelligent,
coherent strategy, Ian is too flustered to bother
listening. He jumps up from behind the boulder and
begins to cover the ground quickly toward the
settlement yelling "What in the unholy Empire do you
think you are doing? Trying to scare Dawterian
hedgehogs back into their lairs?! Your wrist is
completely cock-eyed after you pull out the blaster
and you are not steadying your hand before squeezing
the trigger. Speaking of trigger! You are jerking
your finger against the guard instead of applying
steady pressure throughout the firing sequence.
Gentle with it! Gentle with it!" Ian will continue
yelling firing advice and swearing about the lack of
skill with such a beautiful weapon.
At about the time Ian makes it to the fence, he
exclaims "Here, let me show you how to do it right for
the love of Pete." Ian then pulls out his blaster and
strolls purposefully through the green force-field as
if it doesn't exist (since it doesn't). Assuming he
is still conscious after hitting it full
stride--although likely flat on his back--Ian will
attempt to stand again without fully trying to
comprehend the real physics of what happened but
rather quietly attribute it to a slip or trip.
If the stranger comes through the force-field door or
is close enough to talk with Ian, Ian will insist on
showing him how to fire and suggest quiet seriously
"You know, the only way to get good at firing this
thing from the quick-draw is to actually practice on
someone. We'll work on it together, you and I. Then
we set our blasters to stun and shoot at each other.
Believe me, after awhile you will get quite tired of
being zapped and learn how to fire accurately and
quickly."
Dex (Part 2):
Dex watches Ian running down toward the garbage dump in disbelief. Man, this guy is a lunatic. Once Ian is about halway down, I start making my way down to him, trying to remain quiet and out of sight. If Ian does in fact get knowcked down from the forecefield, I quiet snicker will escape Dex. My main strategy is to get close Ian with out being seen by the guy with the blaster. If it turns out really bad for Ian, I am hoping that the guy will atelast think Ian is alone.
